Guy Johnston is returning to Winchfield after a brilliant concert at the 2012 Festival. The concert will be performed on Sunday 25th June at 7.30 in St Mary's Church.
After winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2000, Guy has established himself as one of the leading cellists of his generation. He has performed with many leading international orchestras including the London Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, Moscow Philharmonic and St Petersburg Symphony.
Recent seasons have included a BBC Proms with BBC National Orchestra of Wales, concertos with Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestra of Opera North, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Aurora Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia and Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie.
Guy continues to play chamber music and recitals at prestigious venues and festivals across Europe including the Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Louvre Museum, the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Moritzburg Festival, Three Choirs Festival and MusicFest Aberystwyth, collaborating with instrumentalists such as Melvyn Tan, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Janine Jansen, Lawrence Power, Anthony Marwood and Brett Dean. Guy was privileged to perform as part of the Wigmore Hall and BBC Radio 3 special series of concerts, livestreamed during theCOVID-19 pandemic.
Guy will be accompanied on the piano by Mishka Rushdie Momen who was the Times Arts critics’ chosen nominee in the field of classical music for their 2021 Breakthrough Award, given by Sky Arts and The South Bank Show. She appears in recitals and concerto performances worldwide, and Sir András Schiff has presented her in recitals in Zurich Tonhalle, 92Y in New York City, deSingel, Antwerp, and other venues across Europe.
As a recitalist, Mishka’s engagements include appearances at Wigmore Hall, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Carnegie Hall, 92nd Street Y in New York City, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., and the Vancouver Recital Society. Four recitals with Steven Isserlis were streamed and broadcast live from Wigmore Hall during the 2020-2021 season, a partnership described as “compelling” (The Times), “delicately matched” (The Guardian) and “altogether wonderful” (The Telegraph).
